Monday, February 14 - Travel Day (Buellton/Solvang, CA)

 

Jesse our navigator informed me he wanted to leave by 9am, so I was ready and in the truck by 8:25am. Jesse hooked up the truck and we drove over to the dump.

I let the boys out to do some business while Jesse drained our tanks and we were on the road by 9am.

We were only about 20 minutes down the road when Jesse said there was a problem with the trailer brakes. We pulled over to the side of the road and Jesse stared to assess the problem. He checked the connections, looked for broken wires, and checked fuses. He couldn’t find anything obvious wrong.

He looked on Hazel (GPS) for a repair shop and saw that there was one right down the road.  When he got there, their electrician was not in today.

We decided to call the Coach Net service, while Jesse was on the phone he unplugged the brake controller and found that there was a wire loose. He tighten and plugged it back in and everything seemed to work just fine. He thanked the person on the phone and decided to try driving again.

We had no more problems with the brakes, and traveled 288 miles and arrived at Flying Flags RV Resort.

This is a very nice park that looks a lot like Llano.

They have an off leash park for the dogs and a dog washing station (that is out of order now).

We will be staying here for only three nights at the rate of $59.40 per night for full hook-ups. We got set-up and settled in for the night.

Saturday, February 12 – The Beach (San Diego, CA)

 

Here is a picture from Friday that I forgot to post. I was very pleased with myself because I got this plane just as it flew past the moon which was out in the middle of the day.

Something I find very strange is the location of the San Diego Lindbergh International Airport, it’s right downtown. The harbor is on one side of the road and airport on the other. I have never seen an airport located in the heart of a downtown area.

The downtown area of San Diego, at least the parts we rode around, are very clean ..it seems to be a very clean city.

The goal today was to get to the beach, the traffic was bumper to bumper for about 45 minutes. :~) YUK. It was a warm beautiful Saturday in San Diego.

We found a place to park the truck and walked toward the beach. The whole area reminded me of Ocean City, MD just much cleaner. We walked around the midway area that had lots of eateries and games to play.

As you can see from the picture above there is also an amusement park here with an old roller coaster (we didn’t ride).

 

As we got closer to the beach I was really glad I brought my jacket. The breeze off the water was very cool. That didn’t keep many people from enjoying the beach and the water. There were people wading in the water, sun bathing and flying kites.

We walked along the concrete walk area but you had to be careful that the bikers, skaters and skateboarders didn’t run you over.

After we finished we walked back to the truck and made our way back through the city. We were heading to Sea Port Village but never made it. There was some kind of air show from the Naval Base and many roads we blocked off. I got a few pictures while we were driving of the show.

Because it was so congested we decided to just go home. We watched movies and had leftover pizza for dinner.

Friday, February 11 - Seeing the City (San Diego, CA)

 

We moved into Pacific Time Zone and it gets light earlier in the mornings. This means the boys want to get up earlier and out for their morning walk, which Jesse does. This also means I get up earlier It’s okay because I slept better last night.

In Yuma our park was right next to a train track that crossed a road. This meant that they blow the horn before, during and after they cross. They travel 24/7 and I am a light sleeper so I never got a good nights sleep.

Here in Diamond Jacks it is very quiet and I slept well, at least for me.

We were out the door around 10am. We have a friend that used to live in San Diego and he said and I quote “be sure to go to Cabrillo National Monument, it’s out at Pt. Loma and what I think is the most beautiful view in the U.S.”

So with Hazel programed that was our first stop. I will let the pictures explain the fabulous views.

 

I really have no idea what the history of this place was because I just wanted to look at the views, the ocean, the harbor, the boats and the light house. Beautiful!

We spent quite a bit of time up there looking and when we left we were hungry.
