Today we hung out at home all day.
We had decided to go out for dinner, and went to the only restaurant in town, Rosco’s. We have heard from several people that the food was very good here.
Jesse ordered a calzone and I had a chicken bacon wrap and they were very good..
Then we took a ride to the fishing village. All the boats were still out. We learned that they only get to fish on Monday’s and Thursday’s. They went out last night during high tide so that they would be ready and out in the Inlet ready to fish. They are allowed to fish from 8-10 hours then they return. They were returning went we got there.
There are tenders out in the water where most boats off load their catch and they get 2 to 3 thousand pounds of salmon. Some off load their catch on the dock. See Mount Redoubt in the background!
Then we drove by the weir.
There was a guy from fish and game department there sorting the fish. He said he checks the weir about once a hour.
He said that most of the salmon are about six years old. This hour he got about 40 fish, so initial indications are that it is going to be a good year for fish. Most were wild and more then they expected. They trim a fin so they won’t be counted again should they come back. The hatchery fish are measured and separated between male and female. He also takes scale samples to age the salmon.
One of the wild ones that are returned.
We also drove by the State campground. Many campers are here for the holiday weekend.
Have a fun and safe July 4th
