We were packed up and ready to go to the dump station. Jesse dumped our tanks and we were off with E&M behind us at about 8:35am. I had charged up our 2 way radios so we could communicate with them. Ed did a radio check and down the road we went. We drove all back roads which were very scenic and many slow curvy areas that were 20 mph.
This is what we saw the most: Corn fields
We took Hwy 5 South to 24 West and then we pulled over. Ed wanted to check his lug nuts and the boys needed a potty stop and so did the 2 legged animals. On to 29 South, 28 West, 231 South and then on into Champaign, Il. on I-74 West, which was our planned stop for the night.
We stopped about noon time in a Walmart parking lot and walked over to an Arby’s for some lunch. It was cold and windy and spitting rain. We had a nice lunch then back “on the road again”.
We received a call from Howard. They were also traveling today and he was on a road that was straight and boring so he said he could safely make calls. They were so happy to be on the way to Kerrville.
I am really disappointed that we are not going to the rally this year. We had to choose between our RV-Dreams family and our children and grandchildren, and I guess you know who won out.
We added a new state to our map
Once we got to D&W Campground by the Lake we pulled up to the office to register. We were commenting to each other “what if they don’t have room for us”. It was a small campground right on the water and looked very nice, but pretty filled.
Sure enough they didn’t have any spots available because of college football game in the area.
So we had to decide what to do. We left it up to Ed and he decided we should go on into Hannibal today.
This time we let Ed lead, which I liked much better because I could see them.
Ed called us on the radio saying that Howard and Linda may need some knowledge from Elizabeth, our daughter who is a nurse. He said Howard had a nose bleed and they couldn’t get it stopped.
I called our son instead who is a paramedic/fire fighter for the Pueblo fire department and deals with emergency medical situations all the time. He told me what to have them do, so I called and told Linda. They still could not get it to clot, so they were going to the ER. Before they got there it stopped. We talked to them later after they were stopped for the night and we were very glad to hear Howard was okay.
So we traveled another 4 hours on I-72 west into Hannibal driving a total of 467 miles and arriving at 6pm.
Marilyn and I put our slides out then we took off in her van to go pick up pizza because we were all hungry.
When we got back I went home and fed the boys and opened a bottle of wine and went over to their rig. We had pizza, beer and wine and much more conversation.
We didn’t linger too long, because I still needed to set up things in the Kram-a-lot.
We were in bed soon after returning home. The good tings is we don’t have to travel tomorrow!!! HEY!!!
Until then stay safe. And all you RV-Dreamers have safe travels to Kerrville.
