Sunday, July 5 - Soldotna (Ninilchik, Alaska)

 

We went over to Bob and Janet’s at 8am for breakfast. They made us bacon, eggs, hash browns, toast, jelly and Orange Julius. It was a great start to our day.

After we rested and the guys had a nap we drove to Soldotna.

We went to Centennial City Park and walked along fishing boardwalk.

We watched some guys fishing and Bob talked to one of the guys.

Then we rode around the campground that’s right next to the River. There were spaces we could fit in, but getting to them would be a challenge. It has no hook-ups, but it would be very convenient to fish whenever you wanted to.

We drove to a couple of other full hook-up campgrounds in the area that were $37 to $45 dollars a night. One also had a boardwalk to fish off of.

We may just stay where we are at $15 per night and drive to the river to fish.

Then we went to the Homestead Museum.

Soldotna’s homesteaders arrived in 1947. The museum also features handmade utensils and pioneer objects as well as Alaska Native artifacts, boats and the original schoolhouse.

We were needing a snack by this time and stopped in Dairy Queen for an ice cream.

We drove around a little more before returning home.

We just had leftovers for dinner on our own and watched TV for the rest of the evening.
