This morning was beautiful! The sun was shinning and it was warm. Many of the people here at the campground were just milling around visiting, so Jesse and I went outside too. Of course I took my camera, it’s an another appendage of mine lately.
This is Jesse talking to the owner Chuck. We were having problems with our electric yesterday so the owner Chuck told us to switch to 110 and he would work on it tomorrow. Well working on it today was not to be and he told us to move back into the site behind us.
Our neighbor was talking to us about a Farmers Market right up the road and was having some problems getting their car started. Jesse gave them a jump so they could be on their way.
Jesse and I decided to move our rig then so I readied the inside while he did the outside.
Before
After
We were watching for Chuck and Kathy to move out as they were leaving today. We said “see ya later” with hugs and handshakes and they were off to Soldotna.
While all this was going on it was decided we would go to the Farmers Market and then take a ride to Homer which is about 30 minutes away. The market was very small and it only took us a few minutes to walk thru.
We stopped at:
For the guys to get scheduled, but there was no one there. Which may have been a good thing in hindsight. (More on that later)
We stopped at a pull-off to take some pictures of a mountain and wildflowers.
Then we stopped at an Art Gallery that the people at the campground told us about.
Some beautiful paintings, but very expensive! Some of my favorites.
Onward to Homer.
The Spit
We knew that some of our friends were staying in Homer so I texted Dortha to find out where and stooped by to say hello.
We visited with Mark and Dortha, Bob and Molly and Wallace and Wanda. I had my camera attached to me but didn’t take a picture.
The guys were on there way out to fish, but they gave us some good information. They also suggested a different charter to go out on because it was much better then the one in the Alaska Saver.
We moved on to the Homer spit.
Well let me said that I was very surprised. I expected it to be much less commercialized.
It is a geographical landmark located in Homer, Alaska on the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula. The spit is a 4 1/2 mile long piece of land jutting out into Kachemak Bay. The spit is also home to the Homer Boat Harbor. The harbor contains both deep and shallow water docks and serves up to 1500 commercial and pleasure boats at its summer peak.
It also has The Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon, which is an artificial "fishing hole" which is where Mark, Bob and Wallace were going fishing. You can see the Salty Dawg Saloon, which is constructed out of several historic buildings from Homer.
Hundreds of eagles have gathered here in winter to be fed by Jean Keene, the "Eagle Lady".
The Spit features the longest road into ocean waters in the entire world. It was very busy today with people everywhere.
It has a commercial Fish Factory which I expected.
It has shops, condos, restaurants, RV & tent parking, boat bone yard and much, much more and all this right next to the water.
We walked around and had lunch before heading back. We stopped at Anchor Point which is
North America’s Most Westerly Highway point
Lake Clark which is on the shores of Cook Inlet was not very nice looking beach area. Visible from the beach was Iliamna Volcano which rises 10,016 feet from the shoreline.
When we returned back into Ninilchik the guys went to talk to the Angler Charter guys and booked one for 9:30am tomorrow.
Guest what’s for dinner tomorrow?

You really should try to stay on the spit for while, it was one of our favorite places. Your pictures are gorgeous.
