Sunday, May 18 - Travel to Wyoming (Sheridan, WY)

 

This morning we left South Dakota at 8:45am. We headed toward Wyoming.

The first 30 minutes was very rough road 16A, they were rebuilding it and there was loose gravel. We had to travel very slow about 10mph.

The rest of the trip was uneventful and we arrived at Peter D’s RV Park in Wyoming (a new state for us) about 1:00PM.

It was beautiful scenery. We saw a few buffalo, cows and antelope.

We got set up and went to Walmart to do some shopping.

Then we decided to go to dinner at Rib and Chop House as recommended by D, the owner.  We all ordered ribs and they were very good.

After returning home while talking with our children a huge gust of wind came out of West and knocked over our satellite dish. The gusts lasted about for quite awhile.

Thankfully we were able to watch the finale of “The Good Wife” with the campground cable. Then we watched the finale of “Amazing Race” on our DVR.

We look forward to a good nights sleep.

We have an adventure planned for tomorrow.

Saturday May 17 - Hot Springs, Wind Cave, and Custer (Custer, SD)

 

We decided to just walk around some shops in the areas today.

We left the park around 10:30am and drove to:

Hot Springs is a city in Fall River County, South Dakota about 30 minutes for Custer. Population 3,570. We didn’t find it all that interesting so we moved on and found ourselves at:

We heard from our friend Trent that this was interesting. We saw the film strip on the caves and prairie above.

When I asked about the tour and width of the caves I decided that I didn’t want to take the tour (Claustrophobic). I told the others to go, but they chose not to. We walked around the welcome center and then decided to get lunch.

We headed to Custer and decided on:

It was nothing special and not real filling so we walked over to Dairy Queen for desert.

Then we were stuffed so we walked around the town and I took some pictures of the buffalo statues that are on all the corners of the town.

We stopped and got the truck washed then headed home.

Friday, May 16 - Crazy Horse and Custer Animal Loop (Custer, SD)

 

Today was a good day. We decided to go see Crazy Horse Memorial which I really enjoy.

Just as we walked in the building we saw Phil and then his wife Rudee work camping. Jesse has communicated with Phil through their blog previously.

We then went through the museum and gift shops.

When we were ready to leave it was raining so Bob went to get the truck for us, what a guy! We went to Hill City for lunch and we all enjoyed our meal.

Then we headed to the Wild Life Loop of Custer State Park.

We saw buffalo, elk, mule deer, burro, antelope, big horn sheep, and prairie dogs.

It was a fun day for sure.
